The Club

HISTORY

Hinxworth Archery Club was formed in January 1999 by archery coaches Marianne and David Osmond who had moved from Muswell Hill in North London to the Hertfordshire village of Hinxworth. They were both active members of Aquarius Archery Club in Muswell Hill  but the journey to and from London several times a week was getting more and more difficult.  The Hinxworth village cricket club had finally ceased to exist due to lack of members so it was suggested by ex archer Marion Ewen that we might like to start an archery club in the village. The Parish Council readily gave their approval thus Hinxworth Archery Club was born!

The first meeting was on the 9th January 1999 where the four founders formed the management committee. An open meeting at the village hall in March 1999 attracted around 50 local people and  half signed up for beginners’ courses that spring and summer. By the end of summer that year we registered a total of 29 archers affiliating to G.N.A.S. (The Grand National Archery Society) now Archery GB www.archerygb.org , H.A.A. (Hertfordshire Archery Association) www.hertsarchery.org.uk and S.C.A.S. (Southern Counties Archery Society) www.scasarchery.org.uk
